Local leaders honored at awards banquet

A highlight of the GACC annual meeting is the recognition of the heroes and leaders that work each day to make our community a better place. The award categories speak to each sort of service -- both professional and volunteer, veteran leaders of the city and young people just getting involved in community service. Congratulations to all honorees!

Grayson's Renaissance application complete

The over 100-page application with its substantiating materials and map overviews of the designated areas has been signed, sealed and delivered -- so now the waiting game for the local Renaissance committee begins. The State will determine if Grayson has what it takes to become part of the program. Orathy Gibson has done a remarkable job in gathering the people and data needed to fulfill the requirements to get our our city on the trail of a Bronze Level Certification. Thanks to all those who carried materials, filled out inventories, shared their ideas, and worked to promote the project. The Renaissance Project aims to plot the course that will allow a town to re-claim the charm and energy that its downtown area once had. Preserving the historic appeal of properties will enhance the allure of the center of the city and events are structured to bring people back to the Main streets. Want to be involved? Memory Days '02 one for the record books

What an amazing week of events! Great fellowship, a huge parade, new fun events like the Dog Jog , great old favorites like the Jaycee Horse Show and terrific weather to top it all off. Chairman Robert Caummisar and his hard working committee did a superb job planning and implementing all the activities. Whether you were in the mood for nostalgia, Art-in-the-Park, a funnel cake or a chance to kick up your heels with Music and Dancing on Main -- there was plenty of fun to go around.

Candidates go on record with views and ideas

A joint project between the Grayson and Olive Hill Chambers of Commerce recently put questions to the Judge Executive, Magistrate and Sheriff's candidates running in Carter County. The structured evenings featured hard-hitting questions that go to the heart of issues that will face the county in the years to come. Topics raised were: mandatory garbage collection for the county, planning and zoning, formation of a library district, plans to strengthen county infrastructure, formation of recreational opportunites, making fiscal court meetings more accessible to public and the willingness of the court's members to actively seek economic opportunities for the county.

Two from Carter up for Small Biz awards

The Northeast Kentucky Small Business Awards, honoring achievement among businesses and individuals in Carter, Boyd and Greenup counties is scheduled for early May 2002. The event is coordinated by the MSU/Ashland Small business Development Center, Ashland Alliance, Ashland Main Street, The ACC/ Entrepreneur Center and the Grayson Area Chamber of Commerce and is a highlight of National Small Business Week. Best wishes to Robert Caummisar, nominated for Non-Profit Advocate of the Year, and the Grayson Conference Center, nominated as New and Emerging Business of the Year.
